SHOCKINGLY, Bartholomew County Swift Water Rescue Team did not let me drive their multimillion-dollar airboat. Well, it didn’t cost multiple millions, but it did cost multiple thousands, and it is way too high-tech for me. In fact, only four people in the entire county drive it.

Apparently a lot has changed in the wine industry since I Love Lucy aired the stomping of the grapes episode. I arrived at Simmons Winery in northern Bartholomew County fully anticipating sticky feet, but to my disappointment I learned that wine makers don’t stomp grapes anymore.

I was able to check two items off of my to-do list with my latest Project Paige. I headed over to the New Japan restaurant to learn how to make sushi having never even tasted it.

I recently tackled a grizzly bear. OK, that’s a lie. There was actually a fence between us that could hold off a tank, but it was definitely the closest I have ever been to a bear.

I cannot say thank you enough to all of the men and women serving in the military. I hope you forever get the respect and honor you so deserve.

I’ve been told that most radio DJs come up with an alternative identity. During my brief experience on Y106, I decided that Project Paige was cool enough.

I knew riding a donkey would look hilarious, but I had no idea it would be so difficult. I naively signed up for the Celebrity Donkey Race at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair thinking I might actually win.

You donate money and blood and even volunteer with your church to help a community recover from a major disaster. But, you never imagine your community will be the one in need. Over the past month I have witnessed what “love is blind” really means.

I flew a plane. How cool is that? I met Pilot Matthew Miller at the Columbus Municipal Airport at 8 a.m. on a sunny day. He said we should fly early because the heat would make the ride bumpy. I have never been in a small plane, more less pilot one, so I was a little nervous.

I am not at all exaggerating when I say that this project was the hardest thing I have ever attempted in my life. It took every muscle I have to drag my body through Columbus Fire Department’s physical agility course.

I’m not a wine nerd, I’m a wine novice. Growing up my parents never drank any alcohol — the only time I saw wine was on TV. And upon turning 21, the wines I tasted were more torture than treat.

I went back to school for this Project Paige for a cooking class with Chef Jeff Maiani of Bistro 310. It’s been four years since I have been a student, so it took me a minute or two to remember classroom etiquette: Don’t talk when the teacher is talking, don’t cut your finger off, don’t leave the “veins” in the shrimp — you know, stuff like that. So, I put on my apron and got to work.

Finally, this year, the light bulb came on. I realized that many of the products I was using could be recycled.
So I went to the store, bought some plastic bins and began sorting my trash. I even bought a can crusher (which, by the way, is my favorite part of recycling — it’s a great stress reliever).

This project was more of a luxury than a challenge. I decided after being chewed on by police dogs I deserved a break and checked in to Hotel Indigo. Everything about this modern hotel is gorgeous, right down to the bathroom stalls.

This project was like my own personal Fear Factor. Well kind of — I didn’t win $100,000, but I was terrified. I have always been fascinated with police dogs. They are so smart and fierce, but I never imagined I would be the target of their training.

I was 19 years old when I bought my dog Jackson — the first living responsibility of my adult life. Naïve and eager, I assumed this would be a simple undertaking. Buy some food, a leash and a water bowl and I should be set. How was I to know that this would be one of the most expensive and time consuming adventures of my life?

Bow hunting. In everyday life I am about as likely to go bow hunting as I am to hijack a helicopter, fly it to Italy and land it on the Tower of Pisa. The option rarely crosses my mind. But thanks to Project Paige I get to experience life's helicopter hijacks.

It’s your best friend’s birthday and you need to mail her a gift. You go to the store, buy something she will cherish forever (the item you think it will take the longest for her to trash) and head to the UPS store.
